BOO-ZBT 3-on-3 Basektball Tournament Sunday, April 25th at 11:00 AM at the Upper Gosman Courts
Do you think you’re a good basketball player? Do you think you’re a good person? Well, if either of these apply to you – sign up for the BOO-ZBT 3 on 3 basketball tournament to benefit those living with Autism! To participate in the event, a $15 donation for your team ($5 per person) must be made. All proceeds will go to the Massachusetts Chapter of the Autism Society of America. J Street U Brandeis presents: A Debate for the Sake of Heaven: Land and Peace in Jewish Tradition Tuesday, April 27th at 7:00 PM in the Lurias (Upper Sherman) J Street U Brandeis will be hosting Professor Yehezkel Landau of the Hartford Seminary. A dual Israeli-American citizen, Landau is a pioneer Jewish-Arab peacemaking and interfaith education. Landau directed Oz v’Shalom-Netivot Shalom, a religious peace movement, in Israel in the 1980’s, and later co-founded and directed the Open House Center for Jewish-Arab Coexistence in Ramle, Israel. At Hartford Seminary, Professor Landau directs an interfaith training program for Jews, Muslims and Christians called “Building Abrahamic Partnerships.
The topic of Professor Landau’s talk will be “A Debate for the Sake of Heaven: Land and Peace in Jewish Tradition.”
Rabba Sara Hurwitz Speaking on the Following Topic: Can Orthodox Women be Rabbis? Wednesday, April 28th at 8:00 PM in Berlin Chapel (note the time and location change)
Rabba Sara Hurwitz will be giving a speech entitled “Can Orthodox Women be Rabbis?” A graduate of Barnard College, she currently works at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale and is the Curricular Researcher and Writer for JOFA’s (Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance) Gender and Orthodoxy Curriculum Project. As the first Orthodox woman to receive rabbinic ordination in the United States, Rabba Hurwitz’s official title has elicited much controversy over the past few months, including strong criticism from both Agudath Yisrael and the Rabbinical Council of America. The speech is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM in Berlin Chapel, and will be followed by a Question and Answer Session. All are welcome to attend. BOO Scholar-in-Residence: Wendy Amsellem Friday-Saturday, April 30th-May 1st
On Shabbat May 1, BOO will be having Ms. Wendy Amsellem as a scholar-in-residence. Representing the Drisha Institute for Jewish Education, Ms. Amsellem is the Director of the Dr. Beth Samuels Drisha High School Programs and a teacher in the Drisha Full Time Program. She is an alumna of the Drisha Scholar’s Circle, has a BA in History and Literature from Harvard University, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Judaic Studies at New York University. Ms. Amsellem will be speaking at the Hillel Oneg on Friday night, and then again at 1:30 pm on Shabbat day (topics TBA).
